Reading Level
Reading level is not the same as grade level. Reading level is something very specific, and most products do not have a reading level.
So What Is Reading Level?
Reading level is usually only provided for books like:
- High interest titles (ex: a reading comprehension book with topics geared towards high school students who are reading at a 3rd grade level)
-
A series of beginning reader books (think "Dick & Jane" books) where each book is slightly higher than the previous one
- Book 1 might be at reading level 1.0 while book 12 is at reading level 1.5
- "Buddy Reading" books will specify the reading level (for example the left page is at a first grade reading level, and the right page is at a higher level)
Entries are numeric with decimals (ex: 0.3, 2, or 3.5)
- Numbers between 0 and 1 are roughly equal to Pre-K or Kindergarten
- 1.0 is the beginning of Grade 1
- 2.0 is the beginning of Grade 2
- ...and so on
You will need to convert terms like My First, Beginning, or Emergent to numerals during data entry.
Reading level is only assigned when applicable (not all products have reading level).
