Handling Fees
A handling fee can be assigned to any item. Charging the customer a handling fee can help recoup shipping costs - even when the customer qualifies for free freight.
Handling fees are controlled by these properties:
- Handling Fee (Dollar Amount)
- Handling Fee Waived At (Quantity)
- Apply Handling Per
- Max Handling Fee (For the Entire Order)
Handling Fee (Dollar Amount)
Assigns the dollar amount of the handling fee. This is set for each SKU that should have a handling fee. Example: If the handling fee for item ABC123 is $3.00, the customer will be charged a $3.00 handling fee. If the handling fee is $5.00 for item XYZ789, the customer will be charged a $5.00 handling fee.
The handling fee waived at property determines if/when the handling fee is waived.
The apply handling per property further controls how the handling fee is charged.
Set the handling fee amount in CounterPoint from the Item window, within the Ecommerce tab, in the Handling Fee field.
Handling Fee Waived At (Quantity)
Determines if or when a handling fee can be waived for the customer based on the quantity they purchase. Example: Buy 6 or more to waive the $3.00 handling fee.
The apply handling per property influences how the quantity for waiving is calculated. Example: if mix-n-match is supported.
Apply Handling Per
Four handling per modes are available:
EACHSKUEACHPRODUCTTYPEPRODUCTTYPE
EACH
In the simplest terms, the customer pays a handling fee for each unit they purchase of a product with per EACH.
Example: If they purchase three of item ABC123, they'll be charged 3 × $3.00 = $9.00 in handling fees.
A customer looking at a product with this handling fee will see a message similar to this:
Oversized/heavy product. Additional freight of $3.00 each will be added. Order 6 or more of Red 14" Chair to waive the handling fee.
Here's an example of how EACH handling fees might look on a simple order with three products:

| CHRD | 2 | $3.00 | EACH | $6.00 |
| CHSG | 1 | $2.00 | EACH | $2.00 |
| Total Handling Fees: $8.00 | ||||
- The fee is charged per each unit (quantity × fee)
- The waived quantity is evaluated per SKU
- The handling fee (amount) of one SKU does not change the fee of other SKUs
- Mix-n-match is not supported in per EACH mode
- Another SKU of the same product type does not have any influence
This illustration details how EACH handling fees are calculated, how waived quantity is applied, and how the total fees limit is enforced.
SKU
In this mode, the customer pays the handling fee just once for each SKU that has a handling fee assigned, regardless of quantity.
Example: If they purchase three of item ABC123, they'll be charged only $4.00 (one time) in handling fees for that SKU, not 3 × $4.00.
