Linked Items

Magento supports three types of linked items:

An Item Can Only Be Linked As One Type

Example: If you want "eraser" to be linked to the SKU "PEN123", the eraser can only be related or up-sell or cross-sell. It can't be related and cross-sell.

Related Items

Related items are shown on the product detail page in Magento, under a headline which reads "Related Items."

Up-Sell Items

Up-sell items are higher-quality alternatives offered to the customer on the product detail page in Magento, under a headline which reads "We found other products you might like!"

Cross-Sell Items

These "impulse-buy" products appear on the shopping cart page in Magento as cross-sells to items in the customer's shopping cart, under a heading which reads "You might also like:"

A customer can easily bypass the shopping cart page by clicking the "Checkout" button in Magento, so cross-sell products may never be seen.
