Quantity for Configuration
This is not the same as Quantity in Package!
Every product should declare the quantity in package, but only simple products that will be configured should use this qty_configuration.
Declare the "Choose a Quantity" value that this simple product will use when it's listed within a configured product.
Each configurable property has a dedicated product attribute in Magento.
This property — qty_configuration — is for configuration by quantity
(example: set of 3, pack of 12, or box of 100).
A configured product is one that lets the customer choose from one or more options. For example, they might choose:
- Edition: Teacher or Student
- Grade: K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6
- Quantity: 12 pack, or box of 144

Option Names
As much as possible, use generic collective nouns like "set", "pair", "box" or "pack" instead of specific nouns like "pencils" or "grips." By doing this, we can use the same property & options for multiple product types. Othwerwise we'll end up with hundreds of configurations: "Pencil Configuration", "Eraser Configuration", "Glue Stick Configuration", and so on. Using generic nouns keeps the list of properties simple.
We will support a handful of collective nouns for the same number to support whichever best matches the packaging or "sounds right." For example, a "box of 3" for tables sounds weird ("set of 3" sounds better).
Plain numeric quantities (like 1, 2, 6, 12, 24, 36, …) are also provided.
Do I use the same "Quantity for Configuration" property for pencils, erasers, tables, and chairs?
Yes!
Won't we need a different product attribute for furniture or for …?
Not for quantity.
Suppose birthday pencils are sold in sets of 12 or 144, and chairs are sold in sets of 1, 4, or 6.
There will never be a situation where the customer needs to choose quantity of pencils
on the same page where they choose quantity of chairs.
A product page will never need more than one "Choose a Quantity" selector, so we only need one quantity configuration product attribute.
What about attributes like "Trim Color" or "Foot Style"?
Those are not quantity attributes, so that's a different story.
This configuration property is only for selecting quantity.
