Quantity In Package

Style Guide

Every product should have a quantity in package value.

The quantity in package value must be shorter than 80 characters.

The quantity in package value should be as brief as possible. Usually a number followed by a single noun:

The quantity in package value is never shown out of context of the product. This means you don't need to include "red dogs" in the quantity, because that will be available in context of the product's title. Size information like "3 inch wide …" will be available in context of the product's dimensions (L×W×H)

Only store the quantity in the quantity field – nothing else.

Borders

Preferred style:

Do not include width (ex: 3" wide) in the quantity field. Border width should be entered as the width dimension.

Rolls

Preferred style:

If you absolutely must include width, follow this format (this might be necessary in an assortment pack):

Assortment Packs & Sets

When an assortment or set can be easily described and provides useful information, it is acceptable to include the breakdown in the quantity as a parenthetical notation or using the words of or with.

More complex assortments should be described only in the product description.

Examples

Consider these examples as you write the quantity in package value for each product.

Be Concise & Use Generic Terms

The words dog and cat as well as the size aren't needed because they'll be visible in the product title or dimensions.

Avoid Brands, Adjectives & Qualifiers

The brand, capacity or descriptive 'Heavy Duty' isn't needed because it will be visible in the product brand or title.
Dry Erase doesn't need to be specified because it will be visible in the product title.
Entering simply "1 Chart" makes it easy to compare the quantity in package across lots of charts.

Avoid a Long List

A long list should be in the description, not in the quantity in package.

Exclude Dimensions

Do not put dimensions in the qty field (they go in the length, width, and height fields).
Do provide measured quantities (feet, gallon, ounces&helllip;).
Remove special characters.

Clarify Sets & Measurements

Provide the amount (oz, gallon, etc) for products that are measured, and provide the most meaningful unit.
Spelling out the quantity avoids any confusion with reading the value as 36oz.
Quantity always comes first, followed by the amount, then the noun.

Avoid Ambiguity

2 Pieces could be confusing. Is it 2 Bins and 2 Lids, or just 1 Bin + 1 Lid = 2 pieces?
The breakdown qualifies the quantity in the title, and is an important enough distinction to be provided in the quantity in package attribute.
When briefly/easily described, assortments can be detailed like a set.

Exclude Guides & Manuals

Generally do not list guides. There is a different place specifically for indicating that a guide is included.

Avoid Superfluous Words

Words and phrases like 'total', 'assorted', 'per pack', 'set of', or 'A x B' can be inferred. Quantity in package should be as brief as possible.
If total seems necessary, break it down like 26 Headers & 88 Word Cards (an essential quantity distinction).

Pages is Not Quantity

Never put the page count in the quantity field. Number of Pages has it's own attribute.
