What is a Template Product?

Template products help us enter and edit product data in bulk more quickly.

When the product editor is loaded with multiple products, it must answer this question:

Which product's data will be show in the form fields?
Answer: Show the data for the selected template product.

Choosing a Template Product

After scanning or entering multiple products, choose a template product from the list. By default, the template product is the first product in the list. The editor shows the attribute values of the template product.

The product editor must be updated when you change the template product.

When editing one product, the template product selection is not available.

How Do I Know If the Products I've Loaded Have Conflicting Values?

(Sometimes the color coding is above an input or group of inputs.)

Notice the individual seasons are not colored, but the section heading is red.

some products have different values
some products have empty values
all products have the same value
Seasons

In most cases, strings are compared ignoring case and whitespace. Meaning " Daily Math " (notice the spaces around the words) is considered equal to "daily math".

Array order is ignored. Meaning [1, 2, 3] is considered equal to [3, 2, 1].

Can I Update Just Some Attributes?

YES. Only the attribute(s) that you change will be updated in the CDN.

All products currently loaded in the product editor will be given the newly changed attribute value.

Attributes with unsaved changes have a blue glow on the attribute name.

Can I Choose Which Loaded Products Get Updated?

NO. All products currently loaded in the product editor will be given the newly changed attribute value.

If you want to update only some products, you need to close the page and load the editor with just the products you want to edit.

A Typical Workflow

A typical workflow might look something like this:

  1. Load all the stickers in the editor
    • Set the Product Type to "Stickers"
    • Set the Grades to "All Ages"
    • Select the Safety Warning for "small parts"
    • Enter parts of the Description that are common to all stickers
    • ...and other attributes common to all stickers
  2. Commit the update(s)
  3. Close the editor and reopen it
  4. Load all the stickers that have 120 stickers per pack
    • Set the Qty in Package to "120 Stickers"
  5. Commit the update(s)
  6. Close the editor and reopen it
  7. Load all the stickers that have 240 stickers per pack
    • Set the Qty in Package to "240 Stickers"
  8. Commit the update(s)
  9. Close the editor and reopen it
  10. Load each pack of sticker one at a time*
    • Enhance the description with specifics to this pack of stickers such as "these puppy dogs are so cute and sparkly..."
  11. Commit the update(s)
  12. Close the editor and reopen it

* DESCRIPTION TIP:
Often, a series of products will share much of their description. (ex: the first three paragraphs for Daily Math Practice are the same.) Enter as much as you can with multiple products loaded in the editor.
Then go back and load each product one at a time to add highly specific details. (ex: the last paragraph that lists grade-specific skills.)
